History fans will enjoy day trips to Sayn Castle and Sayn Palace. Do not miss the romantic Butterfly Garden, Sayn Abbey or the historic industrial estate of Sayner Hütte. In addition, the Neuwieder Zoo is just 2.5 km away. This is the biggest zoo in the state of Rheinland Pfalz. You can also enjoy interesting day trips to Neuwied (9 km away) and Koblenz (14 km away), whose historic attractions include the imposing fortress, Festung Ehrenbreitstein. South of Koblenz you will find the beautiful Schloss Stolzenfels castle, while the city itself boasts its own Kurfürstliches Schloss castle (former residence of the prince electors of Trier). In the second week of August every year, a huge firework display, "Rhein in Flammen", attracts around 300,000 visitors to the banks of the river.
